Friends only

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

This is a friends-only journal. I don't have anything other than personal stuff to post here so most of my entries are locked. Feel free to friend me if you think my interests coincide with yours.

I will, however, occasionally post up Toronto events and other things I'm interested in for public view.

Screening schedule

In case anyone wants to know, here is my confirmed screening schedule under a cut to keep from boring you )

It's that time of year again

I really have to thank my brother for taking care of the TIFF prep this year. He did all the leg work and kept calling me to remind me on all the deadlines.

He bought the coupon packages, picked up the schedule, ticket order forms and programme book, dropped off the order forms, and waited the 4.5 hrs in line to pick up the tickets. I was there too, but I got a couple of breaks because the sun was getting too much for me (it was very hot and sunny, there was no shade, and the line just didn't move).

A big thanks to the fiancé too, in case he's feeling left out, because he got up bright and early and toughed it out with us (and provided some shade for me).

The festival's only just started and already it feels like week 2 for me. I still haven't recovered from the Labour Day ordeal and the sleepless nights preceding it. Trying to jam 30 screenings into 9 days without conflicts was quite the trial. Anyway I've got 25 tickets in hand (didn't get all my picks), just hoping I can stay awake all the way through to the end.

We are back in business

Talked to Father Gabriel last Sunday, and the church is a go. I just called the restaurant and they are open on my day as well. The manager will be available this weekend to go over the menu and other things with me. I can finally start planning again.

OK, definitely calling the insurance broker

Had a bit of a scare 2 days ago. Some time between 2:00 and 3:15, my engagement ring slipped off my finger. It does that when my hands are cold; it tends to come off when I'm pulling my hand out of my pocket or digging around my bag, but I always notice the moment that happens. This time, I'm not even sure how it came off.

I went into a bit of a panic. )

That's so cool ... and yet oddly old-fashioned

I had no idea Codd-neck bottles were still in use. Trust the Japanese to keep the design alive, and make it cool.

I need to find a store that sells these:

Do you see the marble? )

And there's an Americanized version, coming soon to a Target or Costco near you.

So does this mean the next time I go to the States, I can order a "pop" instead of a "soda"?

Should I be worried that this amuses me so much?

I was only passing through on the way to the AMC but thought I'd take a few snaps. Sitting in a restaurant using the wi-fi to post this.

Perhaps we'll see the fireworks tonight. The weather will be good for that.

Just going about my business as usual this morning, decided to check my LJ, found comments from people I don't know. Logged into Flickr and saw that my John Barrowman photo set had 225 views. So I was WTF??! A total of maybe 3 people read my journal on a regular basis, and my Flickr photos are private. Where did all these extra people come from?

Turns out someone linked to me from [info]barrowmanfans. Didn't know about this community (probably should have, though). No idea how [info]kingbantam found my journal.

Good thing I put these pics on Flickr instead of Photobucket. Considering how popular they are, I'd have exceeded my monthly bandwidth by now. But it's really nice to know so many people share my love of Barrowman.

Who cares about Maria?

As far as I'm concerned, this was the main attraction of the 2008 Gay Pride Parade. No, not the "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?" float ... John Barrowman.
(Well, alright, the firefighters were a close second.)

Good riddance!

I finally figured out how to turn off those Snap Shots previews of external links. They were interesting for about 3 minutes, then got really annoying since they kept covering up the stuff I wanted to read.

John Barrowman is in Toronto!

Turns out he's in town for the taping of How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? as well as other guest spots.

I knew Andrew Lloyd Webber was returning as one of the judges, but it never occurred to me that John Barrowman would be in the Canadian version of the show also, so I never paid attention to the whole thing. I never looked at the show's website or Barrowman's own site.

He was on BreakfastTelevision this morning. I could have watched it before going to work, but my boyfriend never told me (he found out last night on Outpost Gallifrey). He'll also be making a public appearance tomorrow and I'm just finding out about all this now. I totally would have taken the day off work to go but it's too late now.

In case anyone is interested, here's the info from Barrowman's website:

The Marias will perform favourites from The Sound of Music, there
will be a draw to win one of 5 pairs of tickets to see the Toronto
production of The Sound of Music starring the winning Maria from
CBC's HOW DO YOU SOLVE A PROBLEM LIKE MARIA?, as well as a
chance to mingle with John and the Marias.

When: Tuesday, June 17, 2008 - 12 p.m. - Free.

Where: CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation)

You scored as Violet

She's quiet, reserved, and insecure, Violet is definitely out of place amongst her super powered family. However, much like you, she just needs to step out of herself and trust that she's a truly awesome person, and that people really do like her! You don't need super powers to be truly incredible!

Some of my favourite things

I absolutely love tension rings. There's just something about seeing a diamond suspended like that, as if it's floating in mid-air. The plus is that tension rings usually have the diamond flush with the band so it's not sticking out on its own.

OK, so some of these aren't exactly my idea of practical but I'd probably wear them anyway 'cause I love the way they look.

pretty rings under the cut )

I'm also quite taken with the idea of a Canadian diamond, even though it will cost more. I like that it's supporting a domestic industry and it's an ethical product. There don't seem to be a lot of stones in the size I want, but they are available.

The diamond solitaire dilemma

It seems that most engagement rings are some variation of a claw setting with the diamond set high above the band, like the Tiffany solitaire.

'What's wrong with that,' you ask? )
